Top 6 Mistakes In Business Analytics Career Transitions

“R” has spent the last 18 months finishing her masters in Predictive Analytics from a renowned university. She had worked for 5 years as an internal medicine doctor for a hospital group. She was a bit discouraged with the health care and insurance systems. She became a doctor because of a push from her family—a family of doctors. But she wasn’t having any fun. She was quite certain that medicine was not for her.

For a few years, she had read about data science and was finding it more and more interesting. After much deliberation, she applied for and was selected to pursue a masters in predictive analytics at a good school.

It was a very comprehensive program. She learned a lot about statistics, algorithms, risk analytics, data science, text analytics, advanced modeling techniques, visualization, and so on.

However, as graduation loomed, and she looked at the operational analytics roles at her hospital and other healthcare organizations, her confidence waned. She wasn’t sure she could do those jobs, and she returned from informal interviews discouraged and unclear how what she had learned in her analytics program applied to “the real world”.

R eventually found us and our program. After completing our career transition coursework, she has successfully transitioned to operations analytics.
